Hi, I have carpal tunnel, I wanted some ideas on how to help it heal. I really don’t want to see a doctor or physical therapist because I feel bad that my parents will have to pay so much money for it. It isn’t that severe so I’m hoping I can help it before it gets too bad. If you know any exercises or ways to help it heal, please tell me. Websites are good too. If you have never experienced carpal tunnel or aren’t a doctor of some kind, please don’t answer this question or at least tell me that you how you know the information, because I don’t want to do something wrong and make it worse. Thanks!
You say that your parents would have to pay for treatement and this tells me that you are under 18. It would be very unusal for someone your age to have carpal tunnel syndrome. Unless you see a Doctor then you cannot be diagnosed with carpal tunnel. If you are experiencing discomfort in your wrists it could be a number of things – not just an RSI issue – and should be checked out by a medical professional.
I’m sure you parents would care about your well being more than possible medical bills.
“You say that your parents would have to pay for treatement and this tells me that you are under 18.”
This is not a logical statement. Parents routinely pay for children’s operations, including many children who are in college or out of college because their children cannot afford healthcare themselves or have not found a job that pays well enough. You can be 60 years old and still be a child of a parent.
“treatement” is incorrect. In English the word is spelled “treatment”.
While the most common age group that develops RSI or carpal tunnel is among the 40-50 year olds, any person of any age can develop these diseases at any time.
The only sure way is to go see a doctor.
By far the most concise and up to date information I found on this topic.
Not to hijack this thread, but, One quick note to the person asking about carpal tunnel. If you’re having difficulty with any sort of pain in your back, the entire muscle balance of your body comes into play. Through the years, your muscles become imbalanced if you have posture problems. Instead of cooperating, they begin to work against each other because your spine is not lined up straight. Did you ever try this? you can determine if you have a muscle imbalance problem by looking in the mirror at your hips. Are they uneven at all? What about your shoulders? Is one shoulder higher? Make sure you are totally relaxed while standing there. If you see any unevenness, this is likely one of the root issues of your pain. Fixing these muscle imbalances can do wonders to eliminate your pain. You must fix these issues if you want to see a permanent solution.
I fully agree with the statement about muscle imbalance. This can cause severe discomfort and pain. The source of these imbalances can be a multitude. For example, even physical training in the gym which is generally assumed to improve the body condition may result in these type of imbalances when not executed in the right fashion.
However, the correct working environment where chair and desk are on the correct height to work comfortably in combination with screen should contribute to the prevention of muscle imbalances. Psychological pressure of workload in combination with noise for example various telephone conversations taking place in the same working environment can instigate unnecessary muscle tension for example in the deep neck muscles. All in all, a major source of possible complaints.
The HandShoe Mouse was specifically developed to provide a comfortable i.e. relaxed interaction between hand and PC or laptop. This to prevent unnecessary muscle tension.
Conclusion, only by means of tools like the above mentioned, ergonomic chair, -mouse etc. intervention is possible. From the psychological perspective intervention is far more difficult.
